Nina's Story

In early 2016, we were excitedly awaiting the arrival of our first child towards the end of a normal and healthy pregnancy. At 34 weeks, after noticing the baby not moving as normal, we were shocked to learn that she no longer had a heart beat. In the midst of our grief and shock, we were admitted to the hospital to begin induction and labor. Two days later, on February 12, 2016, Nina was born.

We did not get to see Nina breathe or open her eyes or hear her cry. Yet she was still the most beautiful baby we had ever seen, and when we held her we immediately recognized her as our daughter. That evening and the next morning we were able to spend time with Nina, creating memories that are both the happiest and most painful we could imagine experiencing.

Although the three days we spent in the hospital were full of grief and pain, we felt tremendously lucky to have had the support of our family, friends, and other organizations whose mission is to help parents during such devastating loss. Our goal is to honor and remember Nina's short but important life by giving back and by helping others in the way that we received so much help when she was born.
